Kaziranga National Park is the crown jewel of Indian wildlife conservation, home to two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinoceros population. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, spread across the floodplains of the Brahmaputra River, offers some of the best wildlife viewing experiences in Asia.
The One-Horned Rhino
The Indian one-horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) once roamed across the Indo-Gangetic plains but was hunted nearly to extinction. Kaziranga's conservation success has brought numbers from under 100 in 1905 to over 2,400 today. The rhinos here are remarkably habituated to vehicles, allowing close encounters.

Elephant Safari
The quintessential Kaziranga experience. Riding on elephant-back through the tall grass, you can get incredibly close to rhinos who view elephants as non-threatening. Safaris start at dawn (5:30 AM) when animals are most active.

Jeep Safari
Cover more ground and spot a greater variety of wildlife. Jeep safaris run in all four ranges (Central, Western, Eastern, Burapahar), each with different characteristics.

- Timings: Morning (5:30-9:30 AM) and Afternoon (1:30-4:30 PM)
- Best ranges: Central for rhinos, Western for elephants and tigers

- November-February: Best time, cool weather, clear visibility
- March-April: Good, but getting warmer
- May-October: Park closed due to monsoon flooding
